eHealth
Ontario’s health care system is undergoing substantial change. By harnessing the power of information technology and innovation, we are able to improve patient care for Ontarian’s by creating an electronic relationship between health service providers. “eHealth”, the application of information and communications technologies in the health sector, is being recognized as both a transformational tool, and a key enabler to achieving an integrated system of care. As such, it is an important initiative of both the South East LHIN and the Ministry of Health and Long term Care.
eHealth is playing a leading role in the Ontario health care system by:
- Enhancing patient care
- Enhancing patient safety
- Enhancing access to care
- Enhancing chronic disease management
- Enhancing privacy of patient information
Because of the critical impact of information technology on our health care system, the South East LHIN has embraced the provincial eHealth priorities found in Ontario’s eHealth strategy 2009-2012, allowing us to build our own eHealth strategy in coordination with the province, as seen in our eHealth Strategy.
